Understanding your Paylater Travel payment plan

Edited

When you book, a deposit secures your seat, your date and today's price. You pay the rest off in instalments with no interest, and once the plan is complete your ticket is issued.

Lay-by, not credit

Lay-by works like this: You get your ticket when you have paid off your plan. Finishing the plan releases your ticket, regardless of departure date.

Your plan always ends at least two weeks before departure, and that gap is deliberate. If unforeseen things happen, there is still time to sort it out.

That is what makes it different from paying on credit. You are not paying after you fly, so there is no bill waiting for you when you get home. With lay-by you’ll start your trip knowing everything is taken care of.

How Your Payment Plan Is Created

Your payment plan is automatically generated when you book, from the total ticket cost, the deposit amount you chose and your travel date. We work backwards from your plan end date and space the instalments evenly.

You choose two things:

  • How often you pay: Weekly or every 2 weeks.

  • Which day of the week payments come out: By default it's one week after you book, but you can set the day of the week that suits you.

From there:

  • Your first payment is always taken one week after your booking to secure your flights with the airline.

  • Payments run automatically from the card on file on your chosen day, either weekly or every 2 weeks.

  • Your final payment falls on your plan end date.

We send a reminder before each payment and a receipt after each one. Your full schedule is visible in your account at any time.

Paying early

You can pay ahead whenever you like and there is no fee for it. Log in, select your booking, and choose Pay Now under Upcoming Payments.

If you would like to clear the whole remaining balance in one payment, contact us and we will arrange it.

Paying early brings your e-ticket forward and you can access seat selection earlier. Your e-ticket is issued within 24 to 48 hours of your final payment.

If your booking changes

Your payment plan is tied to your original booking. Any costs arising from a change are paid upfront and cannot be added to your existing plan.

Payment delays

Life happens. If a payment is going to be a problem, tell us before it is due. It is much easier to move a payment date in advance. You can request a payment extension yourself in your account, under Manage your Booking.

If your circumstances have changed rather than just the timing, for example job loss, illness or a bereavement, tell us what is going on instead of only moving a date. There is usually more than one option, and the earlier we know, the more we are able to help.

We do not charge late fees.

If payments keep being missed: We send reminders first. If the plan stays behind we send a Cancellation Warning, which names a date. If that date passes we send a Cancellation Notice, and after that the booking is cancelled and the seats are released. At every stage before that, telling us what is happening keeps options open.
